info
India has over the last few years developed phenominally and is poised to become one of the largest economies in the world. The "India Shining" phenomenon can be felt across the country. However, the impact of this development has not yet filtered through to some of the poorest and remotest parts of the tea plantations in West Bengal and Assam. A large portion of physically challenged people do not yet have the awareness on benefits available from the government nor the money to sustain themselves.
“Niswarth”, established in 2007, is a registered Non Governmental Organisation (in India and UK), based at Bagracote Tea Garden and Siliguri in North Bengal, India. The key focus area for this organisation is the empowerment of Physically Challenged and Underprivileged persons irrespective of religion, sex, caste, creed or social status.
Our activities help spread awareness over the plight some of the most destitute and vulenerable people in our society. Our objective is to protect the interest of such persons against unnecessary harrasment and assaultation and to help them grow their self respect and confidence. We also safeguard them from the provocation of street begging and child labour and try and bring them back to the stream of normal life.
Niswarth is at present providing training, employment and financial support to a number of physically challenged persons. The organisation also sponsors disabled children to go to school. Donations received by the organisation helps us in organising camps to identify disabled people and help them with rehabilitation.
Niswarth's activities has, so far, reached out to nearly 20 lac (2 million) people in over 150 tea districts and neighbouring villages and facilitated social benefits worth over Rs. 2 crore (20 million) from the Government, Lions Club and Agencies!
NISWARTH DENTAL CAMPS
Niswarth has now started organising dental camps in Dooars. As part of the overall objective of rehabilitating people and providing them with medical treatement, Niswarth is organising camps to help with dental care.
Niswarth has been organising eye and disability camps across Assam and West Bengal (Dooars, Terai, Darjeeling and Alipurduar sub districts). The camps have helped a number of people recieve government disability card enabling them to various benefits and also disability aids and appliances such as wheelchairs, tricycles, crutches, hearing aids, etc.
Niswarth Greeting cards, Incense Sticks, Candles and various other products are now available for sale! A variety of hand made cards on hand made paper and printed cards have been made by the disabled members of Niswarth. The card techniques incorporate traditional Indian artwork like colouring dried and pressed leaves, cut paper-work and oil-paint-on-water abstract designs.
“Niswarth” is the Sanskrit word for selfless.
Likewise, our objective is to provide a “Selfless Service” to the physically Challenged and Underprivileged people within our socity. These are people who have hopes and aspirations like ours to live with dignity but, in real life, simply do not get this opportunity to do so.
